Meeting the Undines

I like to share a portion of my book “The Stories of the Fairy Godmother” This is a story about the adventures of Fairy Godmother and how she was introduced to the Spirits of Water known as the Undines. The sun now began to set and darkness began to fall in the garden. But this did not bother the fairies at all, for their fairy lanterns shed a beautiful light in the garden. The Rose Queen took the hand of the Fairy Godmother, leading her to a secret place in the garden, behind a wall of ivy. In the blink of a wink, the Fairy Godmother went right through the wall with the Rose Queen. You see, in Fairyland walls don’t seem to matter since the fairies can walk right through anything. This is very helpful for going places. The other side of the ivy wall was the most beautiful site you ever laid eyes upon. There were water sprites, dancing and laughing in fountains. The water was rainbow-colored. All one had to do was think of one’s favorite color and the water would change to that color. Not only did the water change, but also the water sprites’ garments would change right along with it. Splashing around in the fountain were two creatures whose bodies looked as if they were half fish and half fairy. As the Fairy Godmother approached them, she noticed a beautiful woman standing next to them, directing the flow of the water. Ah, it was the Queen of the Undines. She was quite magnificent! All of her subjects were the water sprites. You see, Undines are all the invisible fairies that live in the water. Her eyes were like pools of crystal-clear water. Her dress was made of many rivers, moving and splashing as it flowed down her legs. The Undine Queen lifted her sleeve, and the Fairy Godmother saw that her dress sleeves were made up of cascading water falls. The Undine Queen’s heart was a bubbling spring. The Queen’s mind was like a calm clear lake and her jewelry was made up of little dewdrops that you might find on a lawn early at sunrise. Every time the Undine Queen would move, millions of droplets of water would spray to and fro. “How do you do,“ said the Undine Queen to the Fairy Godmother, “Welcome to Fairyland.” The Fairy Godmother made a deep bow to the Queen of the Undines. As she bent over, she noticed a puddle of water on the ground. Looking into it, she could see her own reflection quite clearly. She straightened up after her bow, and stood before “the royal wet one.” The Undine Queen held out a dewdrop to the Fairy Godmother and said, “Open your mouth.” The Fairy Godmother opened her mouth, as the dewdrop fell right onto her tongue. She swallowed it. All of a sudden the Fairy Godmother found herself in a vision. She saw herself swimming in a river. If a big boulder got in the way, she just swam around the rock. In her playfulness, her body and the river became one. She moved with the flow of the river, letting the river carry her along its currents. She came back from her Inside Experience and looked up at the Undine Queen. The Undine Queen said, “This is the gift of the Undines - to flow through the currents of life, not letting little obstacles, like a big boulder, get in your way. Just swim around it.” “We are the Masters of Flow,” she continued. “ Water is very important for all of life on Earth. Even your bodies are made up of 90% water. That is very important to know, my dear. Remember this precious gift and always treat water wisely, for we have many things to teach if you watch us make magic, from rain, to puddles, to streams into rivers, running freely into the grand ocean. "This is our domain,” said the Undine Queen. The Fairy Godmother looked down at the puddle on the earth and reflected upon all the things the Undine Queen had told her. She became thankful for the water she drank, the water she bathed in, and the water she gave to her gardens. The Fairy Godmother became thankful for all of the types of water she ever experienced. Her heart just swelled in thanksgiving to something most of us just take for granted. The Undine Queen could feel the Fairy Godmother’s thoughts and said “You’re welcome, my dear.” The Fairy Godmother turned around and walked back towards the Rose Queen who had been gathering her subjects in the garden. The Fairy Godmother then felt inspired to look up to the Mountain Sleeping Beauty. There she saw thousands of tiny lights flying down the fairy trail. The fairies all around the mountain had heard of the fairy ball and everyone wanted to come and dance. The Rose Queen stood with the Fairy Godmother, greeting all the fairies that were arriving at the party. The Rose Queen was very kind and she introduced the Fairy Godmother to everyone.
